latrobe Lifeskills: Unit Outline for Certificate One in Employment Pathways

Entry requirements:

There are no limitations to entry based on age, gender, and physical ability, social or educational background. Participants entering the course will, through their Pre-Training Review and Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment, have demonstrated the minimum foundation skills (based on the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)) Levels to successfully undertake and complete this course. Participants may be asked to attend for a trial period to ensure the course is suitable for their needs and interests.

Learning Pathways:

It provides a focus on orientation to work options and a pathway to further specific vocational education and training. Educational outcomes and pathways may also include direct entry into employment.

 Delivery of training:

Training is predominantly delivered in a face-to-face classroom based setting at the Lifeskills Bundoora and/or Bendigo training sites located on campus at La Trobe University. This mainstream learning environment is accessible via public transport, provides buildings and toilets that are wheelchair accessible and has food and drink amenities available on campus.

Lifeskills supports the learning needs of people with disability by ensuring that training rooms have Wi-Fi access, projectors, computers, whiteboards and smart technologies, air-conditioning, and heating. Lifeskills is able to access breakout areas as required.

Lifeskills also provides a range of practical vocational learning opportunities including excursion trips, horticulture and gardening, a car wash, and tool hire to support learning. These are setup as simulated work environments where the Trainer/Assessors will be supervising at all times.


The course is delivered over 1 to 1.5 years on a part-time study basis. Lifeskills will provide a timetable and schedule prior to commencement of training.
